Round Barn Blues in Kirksville

The Round Barn Blues Festival in Kirksville is coming up on May 3, 2008. I hope to make it over there to enjoy some of the acts. I really admire the efforts to restore the historic round barn. http://www.roundbarnblues.com/

More to come later, but we are hoping to have a blues concert at our barn this July!

More Barn Pictures

I mentioned reunions, this was our 30th anniversary. Several motorcycle buddies showed, maybe they like wine, beer, friends and explosives better than the open road.We can furnish fireworks for your event as we operate a seasonal stand and retain inventory. I should mention the barn has 4 levels as the last photo illustrates looking in from the pond side.

Barne's Barn background, or who knew the moo moo

So lets talk about this barn, it was built in 1890 by the Barnes family, he was a county commissioner and a justice of the peace, and a civil war veteran. They built the barn and lived in it while the house was remodeled that summer. We have recently fixed the roof, replaced the bridge into the second floor and hauled out 30 pickup loads of old hay, straw and debris. Since 2005 we have hosted family reunions, corporate picnics, hosted civic groups such as Rotary and PEO. We also went back to the farm's roots and held a district Republican meeting with fifty in attendance. I am a county Republican chair as was Judge Barnes.

We are currently working on the lower level and have done a lot of wiring upgrades. We now have enough electrical service to support a band sound system and lights and plan to add a modern bathroom and a deck overlooking the new half acre pond.

The barn is for rent for a nominal sum for rustic weddings, reunions, wine tastings, or company dinners. We have the start of a small vineyard and hope to someday market our own wine.

River Hills Run

This is a tour of picturesque Missouri river and wine country I have done several times because it never gets old. If you are interested in this tour or have suggestions for improvements please contact me.

Friday: Arrive at a motel in the Hermann, Missouri area.

Saturday: Ride 350-400 miles of unbelievable roads and scenery with select stops at state parks, wineries, and historic sites. All meals inclusive. You will have a great time!

Sunday: Ride 150 miles on county blacktops that combine interesting twists and turns with great scenery and little traffic.

Accommodations: We typically stay at a very comfortable motel with continental breakfast. You'll get homebound quickly since it's next to I-70.

Rates for the River Hills Run:
Single: $525
Double: $500
